I like Formsby's, if you want to go pro-grade, look at some of the stuff Brownell's sells.
First, watch some videos on refinishing stocks - I think the one I had was AGI gunsmithing.
Second - the higher the gloss, the more imperfections will show
Third - make sure you progressively get finer with your sanding (using a block!)
Fourth - when you think you're done, get the raw wood surface damp, then hit it with a hair dryer. You'll see little whiskers come up. Remove those with 00000 steel wool. Your raw surface should now be ready.
Fifth - whatever finish you choose, dilute it about half or more with thinner. Apply evenly, it'll dry quickly. After you get a good layer on, steel wool again, then wipe down gently, use compressed air if you have it. Continue applying layers until you think you're there, then apply one final coat undiluted.

Then post pics here of the final product.
Thanks for the info. That gave me a good foundation to work off of. I’ll watch a few videos first.

when you say block what do you mean by that?
I’ll definitely post pics whenever I get it goin

also, do you use denatured alcohol when cleaning your brush?

No brush, I use my fingers.

Sanding block - small block of wood, wrap sandpaper around it - keeps edges sharp and contours correct.

AGI Gunsmithing is the one I was thinking about. Watch the stockmaking portions, very informative. You might change some things, but it'll give you a good basic knowledge base.

@AC-130 Above definitely use a block like TK says - I've whiffed a few projects thinking I could get by with sanding without one lol

10-4. Thanks guys for the helpful info. Makes it easier asking folks who have experience already in something. I shellacked my AK wood last weekend so I gained a lil confidence in doing this lol
