I am gonna go ahead and say it's a repop.

The double stamping of the usual, but the blade make a me hesitant. It's in too good condition compared to the rest of it.

I was thinking the same thing.

Scabbard looks legit, but that blade looks too perfect, and the scratches on the handguard got me wondering if the blade's been replaced.

Well, at least you know...

But hey - it'll still work fine, I bet, and you don't have to open it up all the time to show off.

My EDC AR is on the same lower, but I didn't bother milling that far back on mine.
Oh yeah, it worked fine. I completed it 5 or 6 years ago, built it, shot the crap out of it and then stripped it back down and threw it in my parts bin.

I didn’t like the sharp edges of the mag well and the trigger guard

So I ended up buying a milspec style 80% lower and the rest is firearms history...

Is it possible to replace these blades? Would there be some type of weld marks at the base?

No, the guard goes on from the back, wood slips over a spindle, and then at the very rear it's flared to retain to handguard.

Adding trench art markings to wood isn't as hard as it looks, if you know how to do it.

I went the opposite direction. My first non-plastic 80% was a raw aluminum mil-spec forged and it works fine, but getting ANY finish to stick to that FUCKING RAW ALUMINUM was terrible. I tried 12 different paint types, even special stuff that's supposed to be for refinishing the foot on an outboard engine. NOTHING WORKED. It all came off with the touch of a fingernail.
So, finally, in frustration I used Aluma-Black. Looked like shit, but it darkened it somewhat. Finally got so tired of it looking like shit that I bought a billet 80 like yours and rebuilt the whole thing.
Yes, those fucking corners are sharp. I hit mine with a brass hammer to reshape them, then hit em with Aluma-black, then quit caring when it wore off. The whole gun has wear on it from EDC, it is what it is.

is double stamping the US mark standard protocol with repros?

Not necessarily, but it was something that happened with originals from time to time, and it was originally considered an error, so some of the repro people have used this as a way to either remark mismatched parts, or to make it look more authentic/crusty/imperfect.

I was THIS CLOSE to buying a raw 80% lower but then caught a deal on black anodized. Sounds like I dodged a bullet on that one.

It would’ve been a shame if my Privet 3D paint job hadn’t stuck!

Some good news
Great news
And bad news lol

good news, the Pinhole in the triangle folder is getting Tig welded on Friday by my buddy who is a body shop guy with 35 years Tig welding. Showed him everything and he feels super confident it’s not an issue and he’ll have me fixed up quicker than it takes to get the machine going. The finish will be distorted but I might BFPU my triangle and say fuck it. If I ever want a pretty finish I’ll send to @FatAlbert and have him refinish way down the road. So triangle folder pin hole handled for free. YAY

Great news - I got the PK-A red dot today!!! I’m so stoked. Gonna play with it on the triangle folder after dinner here in a bit. Might need a @Jeddak translation or two it’s dirty sick nasty awesome

And the bad news. The 1965 matching WASR 10/63 I picked up yesterday failed the bullet test miserably. Like swallowed a whole AK round up to the casing neck and was still a bit loose. Figured maybe I was just a bad crown job or wouldn’t effect shooting in real life, but had never seen that before. Barrel wasn’t looking great, even being a CHF/CL circle Y barrel.
Go to range today to prove myself wrong. Shoot at 25y only about 8” groups with every couple of rounds keyholing in sideways.
took it to a buddies house afterwards who had tools and stuff I needed to get from
Him anyways and we took a pulled AK round and dropped it down the muzzle end just to see how bad that bore was. Bullet fell freely 10” into the barrel before it gently stopped. Probably could have used a rod and pushed it all the way through. Tried several pulled bullets
This barrel is TOAST.

So now I’ve got to either buy a new barrel and ship to two rivers to have them rebarrel the rifle, it’s already sporting an oversized barrel
Pin so not sure what they’ll say about that potential, or demil it, buy new front trunnion , sell as parts kit or use as parts kit, but damn just damn. I’ve never seen a barrel THAT shot out on an AK ever

with wiggle room
