I'm no financial guy by any stretch, but I'd say this recent reduction in debt is heavily related to the record stock market highs. That's basically this country's wealth. Just my two cents... not adjusted for inflation. Because I don't know how to do that.

I think most all of the major types of forge marks are fine- otherwise I'm sure the internet would have told us ;) I'm not sure I've ever heard of widespread problems due to uppers, but I'm sure there's been a couple over the years.

I haven't heard this before- I'm not doubting you at all, just new information to me. I'd love to see the US debt free, or at least reverse the dang trend we've been setting.

Ha- I will post more on this later, but my POI understanding is the same as yours... difference in impact between can on/off. My AR carbine with a SPECWAR 5.56 also shoots 6" low with the can on it. That's the reason I dumped some fairly nice Troy sights- they didn't have rear elevation...
