Some were born with different equipment than you and I, and some used networking skills like you mentioned. By networking, I mean working the system and kissing ass. Basically a good many of these people are coached on what to say during the interview process, which is mainly lies. I'm not willing to do any of the above.

Wasn't tying to start a gripe thread, was really just mentioning something a prior post got me thinking about...

man i work for a fairly large company and nepotism has always been an issue here. Folks complain about it all the time but i think they're just doing it wrong. I knew how it was around here so i did make it a point to become friends with those with the power to make changes, those friendships have certainly helped me and my career. But i didnt know any of these folks beforehand but i saw what game was being played and learned how to be a player.

This stuff goes on pretty much everywhere and while it makes us all angry you can either fight it or use it to your advantage.

i can guarantee i've gotten more raises over a couple rounds of drinks at lunch than i have in performance evaluation meetings.
