Move #1 is going to a different department. I've never heard of anyone making $10.80/hour as a fireman. Drive to a different department if need be. You don't need a 2 mile commute for a job you go to twice a week.

And you're 25. YOU ARE NOT STUCK. Go be a lineman. Those dudes can make bank. My old neighbor did emergency work after hurricanes and stuff and did very well.
The biggest reason I haven’t gone to another dept yet is because Chelsea is in several hiring processes with different places across the US.

I was gonna work in Savannah in 2018 but I had back surgery so I had to use all my sick time at Brunswick.

I don’t wanna get a job around a 60 miles radius, and at some poijt this year, she gets a job and I have to leave that fire dept too.

We are really hoping that out of all the places, she gets on with GBI and we move up in that part of GA

That's fair enough, but if you don't think the Fire Dept is your long-term gig start making other moves. Time has a way of accelerating the older you get.

Pretty sure it’ll be in this field, unless some federal job gives me an opportunity.

I'd honestly think of a better side hustle, that's the typical firefighter thing. Dude at our gym has his own junk hauling business that only has other firefighters as employees. He makes way more on his side hustle.
