Smiths just ain't right without the original round butt combats, but paying $300 for a set of grips kinda gets old

Can get a used one for about $400 if you are patient. That's pretty good for a .357 magnum. They're absolute tanks too - way overbuilt and I love it.Very nice pistols but around here a little expensive. I’m more of a budget guy

I understand completely. The valuable ones are around the $1k mark or more...I sold that 686-5 7 shot pre lock for $900 in 17 minutes...to pay for termites. They do hold their value and sell fairly easily when you need to liquidate. Better than a savings account lol.
Dad had one for many many years and that was always in the woods or the boat with him

That ported .45 Colt went to Cali...to a guy on the LAPD who also has an ffl. It was interesting, lots of stuff I wanted to ask about but I didn't
Somebody on ODT periodically lists a beautiful 3 1/2 inch Model 27 N-frame for like $1,100. If I come into $, I'll but that in a heartbeat. He prolly wouldn't sell it to me though because Imma use a truly rare (not many 3 1/2 inch) gun as a carry pistol. I couldn't not carry & shoot that baby.

That's a really good deal if the gun is in nice shape!
Oh, I recognized it immediately. My grail gun for most of my life. In my wilder, younger, 2-wheel days I regularly carried a 2.5" Model 19 (yes, even before carry permits were a thing). Those were rare as well, but I traded it at some point in the late 70s, early 80s for an old Triumph that wasn't running & I fixed.
I haven't seen it in a long time. may have sold or may have had a value awakening.

One of the big Smith guys on ODT offered me a 3" Lew Horton 696 with the unfluted cylinder for it, he wanted that 27 badly. Like a dummy, I passed on it. Ugh.
Don’t see too many of those around anymore.
We had one of those at the shop last year and sold it for 1,700 out the door within 20 minutes of it being out.
