When I attended Scout/Sniper School in the Corps, we shot a couple courses of fire with actual Russian Dragunov SVD's......official USMC bring-backs from here and there. We used 7N1 ammo. I wasn't impressed then and haven't seen anything since then to make me change my mind. Always willing...

I'm not a whole lotta help on this. None of the Dragunov variants/copies/loose copies do anything for me. The SVT40 doesn't interest me, either. The G43 interests me a bit more, but still not a lot.

Unless it's changed since I last competed, they do CAS at Riverbend, South River, Cherokee, and Griffin Gun Clubs.

G19 with Surefire XC1. I carry both IWB and OWB with it.

I don't know that it will hinder you, it's just that the shots are close enough that the longer barrels aren't necessary. I ran a Beretta 20ga SxS for a little while.....only because I already had it and hadn't found a good 1897 yet.

Winchester 1897 and SxS shotguns are in the same class......you can only load a total of 2 rounds in the 1897 at a time. If you want to be really competitive, your best bet is Ruger Vaqueros in .38/.357 for wheelguns. I shoot CAS cuz I wanna shoot cowboy guns, so I use Colt SAA's in .45...

It's their sport so it's their rules. The what's and the wherefore's don't really make a difference. Like the man said above, you don't have to get period correct. If you want to wear boots, Wranglers, a button-down shirt and a cheap cowboy hat, that's fine. There are Clothes Nazis there...

For a short, lightweight bolt gun, I'm a fan of the USGI web sling with the quick adjust buckle. I have a 16" Steyr SSG69 that I run one on, but I mod'ed the stock for left-side sling mount. Only drawback to that is that if I switch shoulders I can't utilize the hasty sling.
