You certainly know more about this, I'm just a couch warrior, but is it possible they're trying to not just stretch the range, but also give more horsepower at closer engagement distances to deny cover, penetrate barriers/vests/vehicles?

From what I gather, they want a balance of power and weight. 308 is too heavy, 6mm is in that sweet spot.

Searched and found this video of a retoration of a former Iraqi T-54. They start up a replacemnt V12 diesel - by using a large compressed CO2 tank to turn it over, based on what they say. Didn't know that they used this starting system. Once it fires up, it fills the workshop with exhaust to the point that you can't see them anymore.
