This was going to be my first suggestion. And I think @1776 is onto something with the "sacrificial" gas tube... just cut one off so it's long enough to span between the FSB and maybe 1/4" into the upper receiver (assuming the upper receiver has a hole for a gas tube).

Coworker just shared this with me... thank God for the smart people in the world. Now I can just put a 9mm upper on my regular (already set up with a nice trigger/buffer) lower and go shooting. These guys invented a "conversion kit" for a standard Pmag so you can use a regular AR lower.

I bought a ZT knife that was titanium coated in DLC (diamond like carbon)... not a scratch on it after lots of carrying around. The finish is pretty darn amazing.
