Almost done. Need to cut a leather piece for the bottom to cover up that plywood.
I mentioned making this more complicated, but cooler earlier. So i gave the bottom a mostly hidden drawer.
First coat dried. Now i like to take a clean piece of t shirt and buff all the surfaces by hand. There always some kind of sticky spots where the oil didn't fully absorb. The buffing takes them right off (so long as you do it a couple hours after putting the oil on... wait overnight and it...
Time for finish. I've been using natural color danish oil lately... it's easy to wipe on and looks good. I'll usually just put some finishing wax on top of 2 coats of oil... but i may put on a few coats of poly on this box.
Not much to talk about... wear gloves, cut a piece of old t shirt...
@Fast306stang ... what do those guys that haul trash charge?
Or call a tree service for haul off. I'm thinking one or two hundred bucks will get it all hauled off.

No kidding... 9:30 first picture, 12:05 last picture... 2.5 hours (not including over night gluing/ cutting the blanks) for 4 knobs. One of which has a hole in the top because i drilled a little too deep for the lathe center.
Last lathe step is to cut away as much wood as possible between the good pieces-
Then take off machine, hand saw the pieces apart, and do some final sanding. Then, after a few short hours you'll have a few knobs to pick from.
My glue up from last night dried, so off to make some knobs.
A little wood lathe time lapse-
I like how the saw dust keeps building up in those pictures.
Got a neat surprise coming up....
Anyway, glued a few scraps together to try a handle. I thought they were too small... and i think i was right. Glued 3 full thickness layers together tonight to try again tomorrow.
The mini handle-
I think it's just too small. At least for what i...
I decided to use some orange paduk to make the lid liners. Nice little color pop inside the box.
Lots of finish sanding today.
Also had to make a repair to one corner that popped open. Super glue and activator did an ok job.
