Little dizzy. Right eye swollen for some reason. Behind the ear is rather sore... that the bone material they removed in mass.
But I'm happy to report the biggest problem led i have is being bored. 24 hours of no cooking, no drinking, no smoking, no operating machinery...
Funny thing about my 1997 F150 (4.2 v8, i think- been a few years)...
I bought it well used with about 125k miles. Sold it with over 250k.
At some point early in my ownership, i switched it to full synthetic oil and started having oil pressure problems. Switched back to the syn blend...
I'm just geting caught up. And have some cool pain pills, i might have to edit this later...
Start with the cheap fixes (seafoam) etc. Then move to the most expensive thing (the whole dame engine). I'm usually done the "bottom up fixing" by about step 5 at worst.

Yeah, that muzzle is rough. I'm slightly concerned about what the inside of the barrel looks like... coming from someone that has very corrosive sweat.
Best advice... don't buy it if it's not the one you want.
Some of that might clean up, new grips, new grip screws... worst case, @FatAlbert can cover all those sins.
But I'd figure all that into my offer.
What exactly are your symptoms, besides backfiring?
Running hot? Coolant in oil? Missing (sounds like the timing was fixed)?
I'd pop a valve cover open and see how it looks in there. Did it have new spark plugs? Old gas?
