NFA Process Modernized For Fast Approvals...still not a repeal, but I'll take faster approvals over the 9 mo. I've waited in the past!

"Without rule changes, regulation amendments, politicians or legislation, a partnership between the U.S. government and a small private industry group has dramatically changed the process in which National Firearms Act (NFA) controlled items are transferred between individuals and entities. There is now a system in place within the BATFE’s NFA DIvision, that will allow nearly everyone who files a Form 4 to transfer controlled items, such as silencers, a genuine chance at receiving approved forms in a few short months. Alongside the ATF, three silencer industry stalwarts spearheaded the best modernization of the registry in 83 years: Dead Air Armament, GEMTECH and Silencer Shop."

You know it's bad when we are excited about the possibility of the government being able to approve a form in "a few short months". It should take a few days.

Wait times are already dropping from the 41f panic. Ive seen december 2016 approvals, and one disapproval from march 29, 2017

What about those of us waiting under the old system? Does this push our wait times back even more or speed them up since there is less data entry load on the system?

Also, if they can use a barcode to expedite things, why not have a way of going online to see the status of a form, rather than calling and taking time away from the getting forms processed? Wish this had been worked into the upgrade deal. Still, it is great news to see the Fed taking a step forward in revising the process. Kudos to the big three for making it happen!
