Wait until it is rainy one Saturday and come hang out in my shop. You will be rolling them by lunch.
Sold!
The leverevolutions are nice. Dropped a deer at 230 yards. That used to be unheard of with a 30/30.
They are sweet, even better with a 24" bbl, but alas...I can't do the laminate/stainless style. I wish they would offer a 24" blue/walnut

There is a company offering a device to turn the crossbolt safety into a saddle ring.

Did the bullet exit?

I dont remember checking. Right after i got up to the deer and saw the hole in its back, i turned right around and went and got the 4 wheeler. I gave it to an old timer that was hard up and needed some meat. He cleaned it and cut it up.

I've heard the LR 140grs come apart and make a mess on the insides.

My buddy shot through a 2 inch limb and still got the deer. It broke apart but still hit the deer in the kill zone.

To me the 30-30 as a hunting rifle is like a 1911 as a defense handgun. It works, but there are better options and those options (for me at least) eclipse the desire to continue using century old designs.
Maybe it's making that difficult shot with an old design that makes it exciting to some

I have loaded the ftx and they are almost like a plated bullet the jackets are so soft. They must really dump their energy. My Hornady seating die was leaving a ring on all the bullets. The original 30-30 load was a 160 grain bullet traveling at 1900 fps. It was known as the .30 WCF

Variety is the spice of life! I have a bolt 308, and a semi 30-06, but something about the 336C draws me to it. It's a gorgeous gun...that's enough justification for me to get one. For a GA whitetail, it's still more than enough power within its range limitations.

I think my next will be the 1895sbl. That stainless is sexy.

You can just shoot my 30-30 for a few days and see if you get tired of it before buying. Is is the vastly superior pre-safety Winchester 94, so don't get spoiled:boink:

Had the same one, from the 50's. Sold it when I was a teen. I'm set on the Marlin, besides I'm terrible with leaf sights anyway! I'm coming to load!

You might want to find a new way to say that last sentence. Just sayin.
I thought about that when I was clicking "post reply". Then said to hell with it, handloader is all over this thread; by the time I scroll to the top he has already replied. He must be on that fancy Google fiber optic jazz

400? I'm assuming we will be holding over about 6 feet? Hell, at 100 yards the front sight of most rifles covers a vertical foot of target.

Don't know, never tried it before. 100 is extreme long range sniper 30-30 work for me. Usually it kills unwanted critters by flashlight at 10 yards.
