PSA AR9

PSA Colt pistol lower
PSA Hybrid bolt carrier
Anderson slick side upper
New Frontier 8" barrel
Lightweight 7" keymod rail
Magpul flip ups

I got a parts list together for those interested. I wanted to build an AR9 pistol for range fun and plinking. It actually could be a bedside AR to with a laser anyways. I've taken it to the range a couple times and fed it 147 gr each time. Ran about 30 rds no can and 120 with the can. This thing eats up some ammo quick really fun. I've had 1 setback. I ended up with a defective bolt carrier and the key sheared right off the top of the bolt carrier however when PSA heard my story they sent a return upc to send it back to them and they will replace it and send it back. I noticed there's 2 slots on the key for Allen screws and mine had only 1 screw in it that could've led to my problem. We will see when it shows up at the door what they say about it. But overall these are a lot of fun.

I am 99% sure that all Colt Hybrid PSA carriers use only 1 SHCS to fasten the carrier key. That hole does not look threaded, and I I have not seen any other Colt PSA carriers with 2 fasteners. It looks like a poor design.

I mailed it back to PSA last Monday and today this one showed up. Much better design so will see how she performs. I should be a tester. How does one get that job. Test ammo, guns, and optics and accessories. What a job.

@Red Dawn eas the original BCG you had one of the "blem" ones?
Yes it appears like it could've been a blem. I picked it up from an individual sale not from PSA and they still replaced it. This new one the G9 Hybrid is heavy duty just from looking at it and it has 2 Allen screws instead of the one that sheared off.

I'm glad they replaced it- and even better that it appears to be a much better bolt.

For what it's worth, aside from adding a little mass, that thing on top of the bolt doesn't do anything on an AR9. It would probably have shot fine without it. I only mention this in case someone has a failure post zombie apocalypse. Just get the loose pieces out of the action and keep shooting :)

It does pull the bolt back using the CH to get it hot and ready. Other than that it just acts as a guide to keep the bolt from rotating around.

With this being a blowback already I just increased it by throwing that can on it. PSA didn't know about that but still should stand behind their product. I hope the added weight of the new bolt helps a bit. I was considering a heavier spring or buffer anyways because the shells are coming out at 4-5 o'clock

Can't rotate around- hammer is in the way 97% of the time, except for the very short time the hammer is completely down in the lower.
I'm in the 3% club it would flip over on me. Guaranteed.

I forgot about the buffer retainer pin- that should cover 2 of the remaining 3 percent... but I also understand about being in the 1% club.

I'm partially taking this from Rudy at Macon Machine- he commented once that he mills the upper extension off of the AR9 bolts.

Well I guess I'll just have to see what happens to mine whenever I get it built. They don't even have the Blem SKu# listed anymore.

That's the first thing I stated when I called them. That there's not even an option for me to get a replacement of this one and only lemon I have. If it happens at least there's hope they will replace it with the new and improved bolt. A 30 minute conversation and a week later bang bang again.

I had to run it 1 more time before letting it go. These eat up some dawgon ammo man. Great if you reload but cha-ching when I take it to the range. The new Hybrid BCG worked fine with $2.50 spacer to tighten everything up. I think I'll prolly end up doing another one. I do like the 8" barrel over the 4" it has less muzzle flip with the extra 4". Fun pistol.
