Im going to FL this weekend a d want to bring my AK SBR with me for my dad to shoot....I know there is an ATF form to fill out but am unclear if I just mail that in and I'm good or if I have to wait for an approval . ....what gives?

You have to wait for approval, and sorry. You won't get it back in time. 2-4 weeks average.
I won't publicly post what I may or may not do in your situation.
I have an SB-47 brace that you can borrow if you want to go that route.
It never was a pistol unfortunately. I'll just leave it home and hopefully I get a letter back by Christmas time when we go again
Depends where the registry states it "resides"
I live in PA and so do my SBRs. When I visit GA where my dad lives (he's a trustee) I file the paperwork for travel.
Each year I file the forms for any place I MAY go. They're good for a year so it's not a huge deal.
So if your dad has them and there's no travel paperwork filed, how they got to him could be an issue?
Dad doesn't keep possession of them. They stay with me, which is why I file paperwork when I visit.
But yes it could be an issue unless I check "not returning" on the form and put his address.
