Mostly the number of pellets - 20-27 of 0.24 caliber @ about 1100-1350 fps. 00 is 9 of 0.33 cal @ about the same velocity. Inside the house I think the #4 buck has the advantage. Outside, longer distances, 00 wins.

#4 Buck is what is in my Mossberg 500 and my wife's Stoeger Coach Gun.
