    Ruger Standard or Mark I

I’ve always wanted to get another Mark 1. I’ve been interested in how it compares to the Japanese Nambu Type 34. I can see some commonalties between the two. The Nambu, German Luger P08 and Colt Woodsman inspired Bill Ruger in his initial designs but he added some original ideas that made it...

    Ruger Standard or Mark I

I got a phone call from a friend this afternoon telling me that a local Lawmen’s had taken in some firearms on consignment. One was a Ruger Mark 1. I went over after doing some research. It was a Ruger Mark 1. She had a blue carbon steel finish, a 4 3/4s in barrel. The sights were partridge...

    N.A.A. .22 MiniMag ammo

March of this year I stood in line at our local Sportsman Warehouse and scored 1 box of 100 rounds each. I have a Sig Mosquito that loves the MiniMags 40 grains. Last October Palmetto State Armory was have a sale for $7.00 a box so I scoffed up 8 boxes. Along with some other rounds that I need...

    N.A.A. .22 MiniMag ammo

No! WMR (Magnum) cartridges have an incrementally larger diameter because the brass fits around the bullet. .22 LR bullets have a ridge cut into them, so the brass is even with the top part of the bullet. While Shorts and LRs can physically be placed into the chambers of a WMR cylinder (but...

    SP101 on lay-away

Nice catch. My Range Rat Friend says my Ruger SP101 has too much of a kick for him. We shall see how he fares with the GP-100 on the next range trip.

    Show your air guns.

Back in 2009 I picked up a Gamo Whisper from Dicks Sporting goods for $250.00. It had a cheap scope but I was able to crank it down and eliminated a Ninja Tree Rat problem. Since I didn’t want to alarm the neighbors and have a SWAT convention on the front lawn it seemed to be a good idea.

Ruger GP100 meets the Ruger Revolver Gals

If you left click the photos with a mouse they enlarge and the details just jump right out. I had to send the 44 Mag back to the factory for a hammer and trigger tune up. The hammer was getting arch marks and had uneven trigger pulls. I wrote them a letter explaining the problems and mentioned I...

    Winchester model 94 30-30 rifle

Last week me and my Range Rat Partner where making the rounds and I spied this old Winchester Model 94 30-30 Win sitting on the shelf. They wanted $300.00 plus for it. I offered $250.00 including taxes. No go. John Browning designed this one for Winchester back in 1894 and since then they’ve...

Ruger GP100 meets the Ruger Revolver Gals

I’ve been keeping my eye out for one of these for quite awhile. Yesterday one of my local shops got a single Ruger GP100, stainless steel, with a 3 inch barrel. I got her for $575.00 before taxes plus a box of 38 Specials thrown in for free. She’s tight, with a smooth action. The trigger...

    Phoneix Arms HP22a

As several folks have mentioned they are gaining in popularity. That design has come along way since their Raven Arms and Cobra days.

    New 45

Congratulations. The Springfield XDs are the rage here in the shops and store. They can't keep enough on hand to meet the demand.

Spencer, Henry, Sharps, Colt Root rifles & some old revolvers

It was a rainy day in South Carolina, so mowing the grass or a fishing trip was out the window. A friend called me and said that Mckendree Long was down at one of the local flea markets with some old antiques rifles and pistols. Mike, as he prefers to be called, is a retired Army Para Trooper...

    Taurus TCP 380

I've fired the S&W Body Guard and Kel Tec. I also checked out the Sig P-239. I own a Ruger LCP and a Ruger LC380 both worth checking out. We have local ranges which rent out by the hour for use. If you can find one of those or have a Range Rat Partner who will let you try his or hers have at it...

EIG 22 short revolver- the EIG gun!

Earlier this month while making the rounds of the local gun shops, I encountered this earlier piece of American History. It’s an EIG Gun. They were rather infamous back in the 60’s and dubbed as Saturday Night Specials. It’s a 6 shot 22 Short, revolver with German proof marks. She’s 6 inches in...

    I want a Zip gun!

No way in heck was I telling my kids some of the things that we did when we were kids. My fearless younger brother, took a dive off the garage roof wearing a crudely fashioned Superman Cape. We used to go down by a river and swing into it off grapevines imitating Tarzan. There were loads of...

    I want a Zip gun!

Fortunately we all survived those little moments. Which always gave cause to a certain bit of paranoia concerning my own kids when they were out playing with their own friends at that age. Fortunately they survived.

    I want a Zip gun!

Dang! I thought it was going to be about a classic zip gun. The sort a fellow had when I was a kid. He took a car antenna, a wooden block and a nail and wired this mess together. He put it in a metal vise, loaded up a 22 Short round. Then using a long piece of wire he jerk the tube and it went...
