The barrel having a smaller gas port does not make it proprietary. No additional pieces or parts vary from the standard. All AR gas ports are different sizes and there is not one "right" or non proprietary size.

That BRT is a great option too apparently, and yes you could use whatever barrel you like. I see nothing wrong with that route.

Of course, I was kidding about that "proprietary" barrel. I guess I should have made that more clear.

Yeah, the BRT looks like a better route than an adjustable gas block (cheaper - like ME) and less likely to get clogged with crud (again, like ME).
Thanks for validating that!

UPDATE:
So I've FINALLY got most of the parts together. I had to go several rounds of trying different barrels (sionics is STILL 4-6 weeks out, not sure they'll ever have barrels again) and eventually went with a 10.5 hybrid from Faxon with the Black River Tactical reduced port gas block.

I wanted the 11.5 as @Wallace had recommended, but either they were $250+ or it was a Faxon "Big Gunner", which uses a Mid-length gas system. Problem there is almost NO dwell time so I can only use it suppressed if I use a proper sized gas port, and unsuppressed if I stick with their factory 0.110 size crazy huge gas port. I just couldn't find a decently priced ($150-$200 was my budget) 11.5 carbine gas barrel.

So now I've gotta find someone to put a durable finish on my raw lower so I can assemble the whole thing.

This is my AR 10.5 pistol. There are NONE out there like it, and this one is MINE.

10" carbon fiber HG, 10.5" lightweight Faxon barrel, BRT muzzle device, carbine gas system with BRT reduced gas port (suppressor ready), Ambi CH, titanium takedown pins, ALG QMS trigger (my standard trigger), Ares NiB BCG, 80% billet lower, Ares Armor 60* ambi safety, B5 15* pistol grip, Sylvan Arms aluminum buffer tube folding kit, 4.9oz buffer, GI MATECH adjustable rear BUIS.

Runs great, folds to 21". PERFECT.

Learned a bunch building it!

Thanks to all who gave advice!!!
