Sweet! If they end up selling them through the CMP I'll probably pick up two of them. One to keep as original and one to send another off to either Joe Chambers or Chuck Rogers to have a custom build done.

Yeah, I'd love to have an all original war horse 1911. We'll see what comes of it. I think it has a better chance that it has in YEARS! Or at least the past 8.

Oh, I have faith that it will go through. I'd be willing to bet money on it.

I think that is a good plan

I'd love to have a real 1911 also... but... I'm afraid they're going to price themselves out of the market. I envision a grading system similar to what they have now- service grade, rack grade, etc. with the cheapest ones being in the $800 range going up to over a grand from there.

Unfortunately, if the prices are that high, I'd rather just buy a near new Colt.

I would grab one or two to fill gaps in my collection but Im mostly hoping this will open the door to them selling some of those ol M9's as they are moving to Sig's now.

If they are that high I will more than likely pass. I MIGHT pick one up but I doubt it. If they are that high I'll just stick with the Dan Wessons and Wilson Combat that I already have and save up for a custom build using an older used Springfield Loaded or entry level Colt(probably the Colt because fuck Springfield Armory, even if I am buying a used one).

M9 curio/relic. Like it. I'd like to see them put some M-16s out. I'd love an original A1. But I'm sure those will probably just be destroyed or sold to another country. I doubt they'll want to full with swapping them to semi.

Maybe everything but the FCG?
that would be nice but more likely we would be able to get a kit with cut receiver as thats whats defined as the offending part, but even that would be pretty cool :)

I buy one! I've seen a couple fly-by-night companies selling the surplus parts kits. But all of them I have found have horrible reputations for sending out complete junk.

I spent my last year in the Corps as the NCOIC of the Stone Bay Pistol Range, the main pistol range of Camp Lejeune.

I'm a huge 1911 fan, my favorite combat handgun, but those 1911's I saw come through were pathetic. A mishmash of parts, looser n' fuck, and unreliable. I had several in my hands that were so bad I couldn't put 3 rounds on cardboard at 25 yards.

Keep in mind that the US military hasn't purchased a standard issue 1911 since 1945.

Im sure they have been beat up quite a bit but also the early 1911's weren't that great! I believe the soldiers that had the misfortune of relying on them during WW1 and maybe WW2 also called them point and pray weapons. The sights where terrible to say the least, they were uncomfortable to shoot for many shooters and they sometimes had ejection issues but they have had 106 year of additional development so that today you cant beat a well built 1911.

The problem is, once a machine gun, it will always be a full auto gun in the Gov. eyes, no matter what parts, get swapped out. The best we could hope for is parts kits...

And I'm not paying $800.00 bucks for a ratty ass 1911, I have a 20 y/o Springfield that shoot like a dream, I think I paid about $500.00 bucks for it.
