So I've decided to switch over to the AK platform. I still have a ton of mags and several thousand rounds of x39 ammo left over from when i had my old MAK several years ago so switching over to the AK platform wont be too much of a PITA. I know I want an Arsenal. I've pretty much made my mind up on a SLR-107FR. Any other models to consider that I may be overlooking? Any models to avoid?

I love my Mak 90. The thicker receiver really made the rifle more balanced but, also a tad heavier. I heard good things about the Yugos.

I've had pretty much every AK at one point or another, except an Arsenal. I liked them, and my favorite was my old MAK, but I fondled a couple Arsenals the other day and they felt like they were on par or better than my old MAK, but they had more features. I just haven't been excited about any rifles in a while and when I fondled those Arsenals it got me excited and wanting to shoot rifles again...I'd really like a Krebs Custom AC-15 Mod 2, but at $2k+ it's just a little far out of my reach.

Go with the Arsenal AK, if buying a new one... Or shop around for a MAK-90. I miss my MAK-90, as it was the best shooting AK, I've ever fired, but I'm not a fan of 7.62x39.

Damn Tommy, when did you get a 54R VEPR? I'd like to shoot that.

Man, I was set on a SLR-107FR but I got to looking on the Atlantic website and this RAK with the Russian red furniture is so sexy. I wanted a triangle folder though because I have a bag that I know a triangle folder will fit in to carry discreetly when I go out of town for work, go on vacation, etc...

It is sexy....but you can get 85% of the sex with a 107fr and that same red furniture (minus stock of course)

That's what I'm thinking. Plus, I'd take off that pistol grip and replace it with a Hogue grip anyways. I'm probably just gonna order a set of hand guards from Ironwood or Combloc Customs.

Love that Russian red!

I got the VEPR about a year ago maybe? Of course the first thing I had to do was put a muzzle brake on her! She is a pleasure to shoot but could use some trigger improvement compared to my Swiss rifles.

Took her to CMP range a few weeks ago. At least got 'em on paper at 600yds.

Nice! Probably better than I could do at 600 yards. Maybe one day I'll be able to get away long enough to go to the CMP range. :(

Something like this is exactly what I'm going for. Simple, yet functional. I just have to decide on what red dot and side rail mount.

Anybody know if the RS Regulate 301 side mount will interfere with the triangle folding stock?

Anything mounted to the side rail will not allow the stock to lock when trying to fold it...
