I have had a few crotch rockets and currently have a gsx-r. They are fun but are more of a I want to look cool kind of bike. I think I wanna trade it for a dual sport bike. I love supermotos too, but think I would have more fun being able to go off road. I am debating between 250/400/650 cc engine sizes (would probably opt in for the honda cr250L, the suzuki drz400s or the honda xr650L depending on engine size I decide on). I could probably trade the gsx-r for a 250 and some cash, a 400 straight up, or a 650 and have to add cash. My main intentions are to dick around in the woods and be able to ride trails and do nothing but wheelies in the street really lol. Im almost 200lbs too, so not sure how easy that is on a 4-stroke 250...

Anyone here ride a dual sport?
What cc is it?
Is it enough power?
Anything else I should think of before jumping in to one?
Do you thoroughly enjoy it overall?

Here is the Honda CR25L

I've had a 350l and a 650l from Honda. The 350 was OK for city streets and of course traips, but would never consider taking it on a long ride and no way would I have ever taken it onto the interstate.

The 650 on the other hand was more than capable to do anything I wanted. Wish I hadn't sold the 650.

Now I want another one. Thanks a lot.

The 400 or 650 would give you more latitude to use the bike as a pack horse for extra supplies or camping.
yeah and honestly thats something I hadnt considered. I do love to hike and camp and the bike would be pretty cool to take in order to get to more places etc.

great to know. ive read mixed opinions on them, which is why I included my weight. Interstates wouldnt be necessary for most of the goofing off I would do, but it seems like it would be nice to be able to hop on and not struggle to keep up with traffic

I guess im leaning towards the 400/650 now. I wouldnt mind going to sit on them both since im 6'4" to see how they fit under my long legs

Super motos are fun as hell.
yeah I reallyyyyyy wanted a motard style bike more than anything but am thinking ill get in way more trouble way faster. Although the only real difference is the wheels and tires. People swap them out from dual sport to motard all the time. Not that sport bike wheels and tires are cheap, but still an option.

ok so update since this thread was started...

I got offered a husqvarna 610 smr supermoto. all the reviews are good. stout bike with 53/52 hp/trq. nice and tall too which is nice since im tall. its a 2009 which is fuel injected, water cooled, elec start, elec gauges etc. seems really nice.

anyone have experience with huskys? i hear the only downfalls are slightly more than normal maintenance (which apparently is more so the case with the 450 and 510's) and the fact that there isnt much aftermarket support, which i dont care about really.

anyone?

Excellent bikes but check how far you'll have to go for maintenance, granted most shops can work on t
good idea. the shop i used to use in woodstock is closed so ill have to look around.

this guy is coming over today to check out each others bikes. im stoked for a motard style bike. the gsxr is just less capable and bores me a bit.

my only advice is to avoid KTM, I've seen so many issues with their bikes.
