As promised, here they are - except for the custom shop 6906 that’s in the Wife’s car: These two 39's started out almost identical Nickeled 39-2 Rare model 5924 with frame-mounted decock lever for French Police contract Early Short Safety Lever 39 Rarer than an ASP is the I.S.P.39, seen here with original duty holster and repro badge Detail of 1970's era cut-down and nickeled 39. Obviously I've got a soft spot for them too. They just fit my hand perfectly.
Took me 10 years to find an ISP 39, but it was worth the search.

What's the one with the transparent grip? I've never seen anything like that before. Is that factory, or aftermarket?

What's the one with the transparent grip? I've never seen anything like that before. Is that factory, or aftermarket?

Sort of BOTH. Aftermarket factory. These are "remanufactured" S&W 39s and 39-2s, made by George Nonte (first batch) for Armament Systems and Procedures, owned by Paris Theodore. Supposedly made for and issued to undercover CIA operatives, there were reportedly 286 changes from the original 39 to the ASP. No production records exist, and there are no serial number ranges because the guns were not purchased directly from S&W (they wanted no involvement in the project).
Later on, Devel, Austin Behlert, and other custom shops got into chopping down 39s - like the short nickeled one I have.
These eventually led S&W to make their own smaller 39 and 59 series guns, and the 669 and later 3913 were born.
