I'm set on buying a scout rifle next. I like the concept. It's b/w the Savage 11 Scout and Ruger Gunsite Scout. Anyone have experience with either?

No personal experience but I do like the savage scout. I have considered it to be my bolt gun purchase. I think there was a thread not to long ago covering the same thing that had lots of good info in it.

I decided not to buy a Ruger Scout because of the 16"ish barrel- too short for .308 in my opinion. 18" on the Savage sounds much better.

Also, was that a rear peep sight on the Savage? They didn't got into much detail, but I love a hooded aperture. It'd be really nice if it had the 1/2MOA twist like my M1A.

I had a bubba scout (mauser 98 in 308) That was cool gun. Sold it to NWS, kinda regret it. He sold it while back. If it ever pops up for sale again I'm liable to buy it back.

Just curious why you want the scout setup?

Mossberg makes the MVP LR in 308 in the mid $700 range. I got to fondle on the other weekend and really like it for the cash. 20" barrel, and a great feeling factory stock. Yes, its a Mossberg, but felt awesome to hold.

I want the Savage action in the Ruger's stock. When I buy my bolt gun it will be a Savage.

Ruger always just leaves me with an overwhelming sense of meh.

That mvp lr looks nice! Gotta look into that.

The scout rifles seem like a practical choice for me. I don't hunt so I don't need a hunting setup. I don't ever shoot beyond 200 yards so a carbine length barrel is fine with me. And an AR10 would cost me much more than a Scout rifle.

The biggest criticism I hear about the Scout rifles are the short barrel lengths. People get hung up on barrel length IMO yet most will never shoot beyond the limits for their own rifle.

Lastly, Cooper knew his shit and his argument for the Scout setup makes perfect sense. Who am I to argue.

Ruger GSR is pretty nice. There really is not an appreciable difference in velocity between the 16" and 18". Additionally, there is no huge difference in blast that I can tell between it and a 24" barreled Savage 10. The 16" handles really well.

I didn't. Someone else did... I believe my ad said "this is a rare chance to own a piece of history that has had all historical value removed." All Dobbs did was thread it for Scott.

Well shit, what do I have to trade.........

And you know I don't read good, needs pictures in ad for me to catch it.
