I'm interested in 3X fixed and have researched a few but reviews are all over the place.

Anybody have something they can give a firsthand review on?

Thanks guys.

Nikon P223 if you want something cheap. It's a 3x30 or 3x36 or something like that and very compact.
Might still have one somewhere, I remember it being surprisingly good.

That's the one I was looking at yesterday.

This will go on my primary defense weapon so I want a rugged one. Not really sure about that with this one.

I don't know if there is such a thing as a rugged compact scope. Maybe the POSP scopes, but that's AK stuff

The glass in my P223 seemed to be a notch above the Prostaff. It "shot the square" reliably and seems pretty well built. No issues at all so far.

I have the P22 on my ruger,Brother has P223 on his AR, I do not like the circle outline on the cross hairs. Wish would have gone with something with darker mil dots

Plenty of rugged compact scopes, but the OP's price range rules out the ones I was gonna recommend.

A fixed 3x on an SBR? A lot of optic for not much gun.

I have it. Seems to be well built, holds zero, clear glass. The reticle is excellent for ranging at unknown distances, but the bdc is a bit off in the loads I've tried.

I'd agree with cmshoot about the choice. Have you thought about a red dot/magnifier?
Yes but I'm thinking I want my main weapon optic to not need a battery.

What are you getting ready for? For the price, you can't beat a Nikon. If you are truly serious about this weapon, get a trijicon or swarovski. If you are not so serious or cheap, get a Leopold.

I have a 3 of the Nikon scopes. In the price range, I've yet to see anything I like better. That includes my Leupold.
