I am getting close to buying a carry pistol. I am leaning heavily toward the S&W Shield but thinking about others. Short list includes:
  • Bersa BP9cc
  • Shield
  • Kahr CW9
  • Sig P250
Would like to stay under $400. Honestly I think it will be the BP9 or Shield but open to suggestions.

Doug, try to temper your Glock Bias :)

I edc a Kahr CM9 and CW9. The wife carries a Shield. All three are fine. SW has a life time warranty. I think Kahr is five years.

Can you hit anything with that Kahr? I've heard differing opinions.

Take a peek at the Sig P290RS. You should be able to easily stay under $400.

If you could smooth out the ridiculously gritty 12 stage trigger on the Bersa BP9cc, it would be the perfect carry gun

and you sold yours because?
It was bigger and heavier than I wanted to carry, but considering the guns he listed, it should fit his requirements. The build quality was excellent, it shot well, but it was twice as heavy, and 50% wider than my LCP.

I love my Sigs, so I thought I wanted a 250. That sumbitch is a boat anchor. I have a P290rs and I don't know what hoss is talking about. I can shoot the shit out of that stubby little bastard. Of all the guns I've shot with barrels that short, it would be my #1 pick. I carry it in like clothes and a P30 the rest of the time. Love the p30 best.

I think the Shield in 9MM is a good choice. It can be had for $329. I carry in an IWB that has a pocket for the spare mag and am comfortable even while driving. As with any new gun, you will have to get used to the nuances. Put a couple hundred rounds down range should work just fine.
