Quick run down. BG sees this guys gun, because he's not really concealing it. Should've gone to NSRTactical for his holster most likely. BG goes for gun. They tussle and the BG damn near hands the guy his Darwin award with his own fracking gun.

Just having a gun isn't enough. It's not a ward against evil, some magical talisman that will keep you safe.

Quite true...however the vast majority of people won't look up from their phones long enough to notice, or those who do have some sort of training and are probably 'on your side'.
