How far can a 22lr make semi consistent hits?
We took a buddies Vudu out yesterday and did some experimenting. He worked up the dope and made a hit at 550 yards. He told me what to hold and I made a first round hit. It was surprisingly consistent.
He then put in the data for 600 yards, and it said we needed a lot more elevation to go 50 yards further. We pretty much maxed out the elevation turret, and held bottom of the reticle. Not the graduated reticle, but the very bottom. It had two hash marks in the thick part, i drew them below in red. We had to hold the bottom red one that I drew here

After a few shots, my friend connected. I hit twice out of 8 shots or so. 22lr is really, really struggling at this distance. But it can be done haha.
You can barely see them, but my two hits are circled below. It was hard to get my phone to focus through the spotting scope.

In my experience most rimfire projectiles are not very ballistic coefficient and just can't stay stay stabilized past 500 yards making it near impossible to keep accurate dope
a little wind and turbulence really beats those light bullets up
Some of the better brands do a little better and SV proved to be best.
I thought some of the 1400+fps stuff would perform better but it was too inconsistent

This was with rws match ammo. The high velocity stuff gets unstable as it comes back below the speed of sound and get wildly inaccurate. Its better to artillery in the slow stuff
It was very wind sensitive, which added an extra layer of fun

@chance that’s awesome .. 22lr is is fun and I’ve actually got my longest confirmed impact in a match at 389 yds we did at Gun Sight Hills. Next time I’m out there for a match I’ll spend some time out to 500 yds just for extra dope confirmation. I believe @ReservoirDog10 shot a 5-6” group at 500 in his Vudoo when we were there. Having the right ammo helps tremendously when it comes to 22lr.

I will set my zero at 50 yds use my MV at 100yds and play around with the BC at 300 to make the elevation correct then work it backwards confirming impact at distances inside 300 adjusting MV till all are within a 0.10 mil up or down.

Good times ... nicely done btw too

I have a lot to learn with developing dope and using the apps and kestrel. Its a fun new thing to learn.
going 350 in a match would be rough without Good data. And any wind would be a nightmare on the clock

I got the Kilo3000 set up using the BDX app to match my Kestrel for the Arena. It was an unknown distance but you new how many targets there were and how many impacts for each. I ran the kilo3000 the whole match and it worked well out to 300 too. Thanks to @lesptr letting me borrow his.

wind is a whole beast by itself. We had 300 yd target sat with 5-17 mph wind I had a 4.5 MOA hold off target to make impact lol

I've shot out to 600 with hits. It was rough though. Wind depending, I'm pretty consistent at 500. Good ammo, good data. Good wind call and you'll surprise yourself.
