From the great Polish! While it may have been a meal out of necessity and getting by with a little change in your pocket. Sometimes eating broke makes the best meals!
This is one of my favorites! Other than the cost of bacon today, this is a cheap dinner! 4 simple ingredients:
*Bacon (1lb package)
*Onion (medium onion)
*Cabbage (1 head)
*Egg noodles (medium package)
-dales seasoning is optional
I begin mine by frying up my bacon. Now, I take the package of raw bacon and cut in 3/4" sections. Throw those in a pan and they fry up quick! Once cooked set aside.
While the bacon is going, core the head of cabbage and place it into a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Once at a boil I let it go about 15 mins. It shouldn't all be limp. Once that's done, drain off. I keep the water for my noodles. Chop up the cabbage. I usually cut it in half and slice in thin strips like coleslaw.
So now you got your bacon and cabbage done, set to the side. Slice up your onion. Again I cut in half and then slice. Sautee the onion in a little bacon grease.
Once they are translucent I will add in the cabbage to sautee. Now while the cabbage in sautéing I start my egg noodles (done per package directions). You want to cook the cabbage to a light browning. Add in a little more bacon grease as needed.
Once the cabbage begins to brown I will then add in the cooked noodles and toss together. You may not use the entire package, your choice... you need a big pan/pot for this. While this is continuing to cook, I like to add 2 cap fulls of dale's seasoning to it. Give it about 10 minutes to marry together, tossing/stirring everything together. Just before serving I throw in the bacon and toss it. You can add the bacon in with the noodle, but I like it to stay crispy.
Serve and enjoy!
I cook mine in an electric skillet.
