EBR-2C MRAD Reticle

I bought a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 FFP scope for my new Ruger Precision Rimfire. It's equipped with the EBR-2c reticle in MRAD. What little I've done in the past had always been MOA. (Sorry @Red Dawn I'm leaving you behind)

I know the formula.

Size in meters x 1000/MRADs read= Distance in meters.

Easy enough. But I'm not used to thinking of anything in terms of meters/centimeters. Any tips? How about references I could use? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Just practice. Plenty of videos and articles out there giving pointers.

You can always cheat and use a phone app as well. I carry a little card with common sized targets and corresponding distances relative to mils. When possible, I cheat and use a laser range finder.

Unless you were just plinking with a few buddies, most shooters are using mils. Also, military and the entire remainder of the world Good thing to get used to it now and make the switch before you start buying expensive glass.

If you prefer to think in inches and yards, the ranging formula is:

(Size of target in inches X 27.778) / mils = range in yards

Say you have a 24” target, you measure it with your reticle and get 2.752mils.

24” x 27.778 = 666.672

666.672 / 2.752 = 242.25 yards

Here are all the ranging formulae that I’m familiar with.

*Note: The formulae that use "MOA" are using the true MOA of 1.047" at 100yds. The ones using "S-MOA" are using "Shooter's MOA" of 1" at 100yds. You need to know which type of MOA your scope is set up for.

Size of Target (yards) x 1000 / mils = Distance to Target (yards)

Size of Target (inches) x 27.778 / mils = Distance to Target (yards)

Size of Target (inches) x 25.4 / mils = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (meters) x 1000 / mils = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (cm) x 10 / mils = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (inches) x 95.5 / MOA = Distance to Target (yards)

Size of Target (inches) x 87.32 / MOA = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (cm) x 34.37 / MOA = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (inches) x 100 / S-MOA = Distance to Target (yards)

Size of Target (inches) x 91.44 / S-MOA = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (meters) x 3600 / S-MOA = Distance to Target (meters)

Size of Target (cm) x 36 / S-MOA = Distance to Target (meters)

There’s a company that makes a “wheel” for ranging. If you don’t want to do the math, you turn the wheel until you get the correct miles in one window, then it shows you the distance in another window. Can’t think of the manufacturer, and I’m overseas right now so I can’t look at mine.

That’s it. I was getting it confused with a density altitude wheel that I have.

Not really. It may help you learn, but there are other, better ways. If you have time to fuck with a mil-dot master, you have time to grab your laser rangefinder and get an exact distance.

I guess you could make an argument for if your rangefinder does down. But then, it is probably batteries. Carry an extra set. If you completely fuck up your rangefinder, you have math.

Granted, I'm not using this stuff in combat scenarios. As much as every keyboard commando wants to relate to combat, we really aren't doing that waste case, you fuck up half a stage guessing and correcting your dope.

I have a Mil-Dot Master, but don’t use it. If I’m using my reticle, I just crunch the numbers with a calculator.
