I had a 2.5" Python that was made in 1976, was my EDC for years. Picked up a 3" S&W M-13 and sold the Python. Made a very tidy profit on it.

The only Colt revolver I'd own.

The more I look at that new Cobra the more I'm like "WTF?" What happened to the nice lines Colt revolvers were always known for? That thing looks like a Charter Arms.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I looked at it. It looks almost identical to a Charter Arms.

The first model troopers were nice too. This one my uncle left me and it's gotta be smoothest revolver I've ever handled. This thing in unbelievably tight but everything on it moves slick like butter. I'm afraid to shoot it. View attachment 23232

That early Trooper of yours is a PEACH--The NICEST Colt I've seen in several years--And you're right, it's SLICK as Owl Sh**! Keep me in mind if you ever lose your mind & decide to part with it--LOL!... :) ....mikey357

Man if you ever see that one listed please say a prayer for me cause it'll mean I'm down to my last very last dime and have already done all sorts of shameless things.

Pass... I'm afraid that the good old days of the beautiful finishes on the Colt revolvers are gone if they do come back out with the full line of the "snake guns"
Why? Finishing processes are better now than they were in the 60's for sure.

Why .38 and not .357?

It looks like they're trying to start out by getting their compact revolvers back into the ultra lucrative ccw market. It's saturated with lightweight poly guns, and .38 is a good way to keep size and weight down vs. .357 to help them compete.

Please don't ever refer to a Colt as a J Frame. Makes me want to punch you in the dick.

I've read where Colt's CEO has stated that in order nowadays to make a Python with the fit and finish of the days of yore, they would have to retail for $4k.

Long story short, I bought my 2.5" Python unfired, in the box, with the papers and original receipt for $450 in 1995. Gorgeous gun, I liked it a lot. Wouldn't mind having it back, but I don't miss it like I miss a few other guns I wish I still had.

I don't think there's a modern substitute for hand polishing and fitting parts.
Producing parts that are machined precisely enough that hand fitting becomes unnecessary.
