my son that is stationed in Korea,is missing his dirtbike(raced since 5) and has raced BMX since 8. he took his skateboards with him and is skating most weekends, BUT .he wants a " road bike, not a mountain bike" with that being said,i know nothing about them
racing BMX I have several REDLINE bicycles, and they were great and he used DK bikes as his street bicycles.

I am on a budget $2,000 and under,it will cost me about $100 to ship
any ideas?

I think my buddy in alabama has a good road bike he'd sell. I can ask him about it all but I don't know much about it.

Honestly, he can get one cheaper in Korea. They have awesome bike shops there and he can get fitted.

Trek makes good bikes. Bikes are mostly about the quality of components they are built with. You can get a Motobecane with the same components as a comparable big name bike for about 1/2 the cost. I have a Mercier from bikes direct and it's been great. Have some experience with Fuji and they seem to be pretty good too. What is a "good bike" definitely depends on who you ask. I've been made fun of for riding a "toys-r-us" bike that cost me $1200 by guys who have $10-$20 in a single bike build.

Look at component level to compare bikes. The frames are all made in the same plants and have different decals on them. An Ultegra Component level or better would be my preference but a 105 level will work. Acer is junk.

If I tried that, I'd be in intensive care for 6-8 months, possible more waiting for one of multiple organ transplants.
