Best/Favorite Hunting Load for 300BLK?

Looking at using the Barnes Vor-tx 110gr copper solid or the Federal 120gr Copper solid for pigs this year. So far I just have a supply of the Federal load (about half the price as the Barnes).

Any other good options? I want to stick with supersonic..there's some big ol' pigs on this ranch and I don't feel comfortable using subs.

Can't wait until 300Blk gets a bit cheaper..sheesh.

My buddy uses a handload with a 125grn Nosler Ballistic Tip on deer and hogs.

I am trying some Bergers this year to find the magical bang flop high shoulder every time. With that disclaimer out of the way, Nosler Ballistic Tips expand over an incredible velocity range. You can shoot the same bullet in a 300 Win Mag, or a .308. Noslers fly like match bullets, and are easy to load.

If I were shooting that caliber, I would cast some dead soft lead, gas-checked hollow point projectiles, or hollow point them after the fact. Then powder coat the entire bearing surface, leaving the nose uncoated soft lead. Nothing is going to expand better than soft lead. Being low velocity and monolithic, I would expect the bottom 1/2 to stay intact. Wheel weights have held together for me at 30-30 velocity. These would probably have to be single fed first shots to avoid damage to the nose in an ar.

If you buy a mold, I will be happy to cast you some hard and soft.

the barnes vor-thx or the hornady sst should do the trick. i’ve yet to try a deer with 300 but the comparable loads in 6.8 spc worked well.

Not trying to hijack. But I have been debating on the 300blk for deer this year. Obviously the loads @Laufen suggested would work for deer! Are there any subsonic loads that would also work for deer?

Maybe the underwood 194 maximum expansion.

I agree that wheel weights would not expand sufficiently at typical handgun speeds. There is no way that I would shoot a traditional jacketed rifle bullet at a deer under 2000 fps m.v. At 1800 or 2000 fps the wheel weights might expand, but soft cast would be where I started as well.

And we have a tremendous variety of relatively cheap, and specialized ammo available off the shelf.

I’ve been loading 9, 45, 38, and 32 for a while with great results. 300BLK is the only rifle round I’ve attempted, and it’s been an exercise in frustration. I get better groups from cheap plinking ammo. Maybe my micro 7 just doesn’t like 125 gn Sierra match kings, but I’ve not tried anything else.

I get it and was of course joking with you. I would probably shoot a 125 loaded with a Nosler if I was shooting factory supersonic.
