I’ve put together a 7.62x39 upper and I’m taking it to the range. So my question is what is your zero you use. I’m thinking about a 20 yd front zero giving me a touch over 3” at 100 high and back to 0 again at 200 yd.

Based on the chart I used .257 BC and 2350 FPS is that a fair baseline to start with.

But they are pretty accurate.

I never really zeroed my irons to a set distance. I just made sure it was straight. I would be interested to see what it's set up for though.

Gotcha you should stop by CMP this sat to shoot with us.
This is gonna be a 200yd and less gun for hunting and plinking so irons should do the job for now.

I use a 40 rd zero for hunting. 1/2" low at 25 will be close also with a scope mounted 1.5 inches above bore. This will keep the bullet in kill zone for a whitetail without having to adjust in the field. Just know the limitations of the round and Wolf HP is just plain nasty on targets.

I guess it depends on where you'll anticipate the bulk of your shots coming. With a x39 maybe a 50-75 yard zero would be a good idea?

I was trying to maximize distance with minimal high low error. Meaning anything I see up to 200 yds ethical kill with 762x39 I’d be at worse case scenario 3” high and could compensate some where I hold the front sight.

I have always considered about 150 yards for about max range for an ethnical kill. However, if you are hunting in the woods, 50 yards is a long ways for a clear path. Link above will allow you to plug in a lot of data to get ranging. Very helpful for sighting in on indoor ranges. Just remember that 1.5 MOA is about par for this ammo, so YMMV on long range targets. If you are hunting fields, move up to 308 and do a 200 yard zero and be done with it.

Would it make a difference that you're shooting 7.62x39 out of an AR instead of an AK, due to the height of the sights or optic over the bore? Most people recommend a 25 yard zero for the 7.62 AK. That's what I use on mine but that's not to say that there isn't a better method to use than that.

I own a couple of AKs,; but hunt with AR x39. This is the zero I have used for years to harvest white tails with. This zero will serve about 90% of my shots and the rest are too long. Think 30-30 range and you ard goog to go for hunting.
