I was going to use the Red Dot sight on my AR-15 but I decided to put a scope on. I was at Walmart today and picked up a scope mount for an AR. All the scopes rings I had was low profile and it did not work with the high cheek on a AR. Even the Red Dot was way too low on the gun.

Nice rifle, Rich. You did well in my opinion. I put a 1-4x24 Bushnell on mine. I like it a lot and it works well for mid-range shooting. I have my mount (looks like yours) on the opposite way. Not sure if there is a right or wrong way.

Your red dot probably needs a riser to get it up to where you want it. Red dot/reflex sights are nice too, little or no magnification, and best for close-up quick target acquisition.

I put them on about 3 o'clock in the morning and wasn't too alert. I would say that I have mine on wrong and you have yours on the right. I never used that type of Mount so I would say I'm wrong.

Regarding the scope mount: The direction of the mount will be dictated by the specific dimensions of the scope and getting a proper eye relief for your way of handling the rifle. There is no right or wrong direction for the mount except for whether or not it works for the specific situation.

If I ever take the scope off I will switch them around. I just had enough eye relief.
