Am I the only one on the planet that put a 300Blk together to run supersonic ammo for hunting versus using the 5.56?

I know energies are very comparable, but I just like the idea of hitting hogs and deer with a 30 caliber bullet versus a 22 caliber bullet. Energy doesn't always tell the whole story as far as effectiveness goes...do I have the dumb?

I really don't have any desire to use subsonic ammo in it, don't even have a single subsonic round for the gun.

I'll be leaving to go hog hunting next week, and I'll be loaded up with Underwood 115 grain Controlled Chaos bullets. 2350fps out of a 16" barrel, I should be in the 2100+ range with my 10.5".

If you have no plan of ever shooting subsonic you could have saved a bunch of money by building a 7.62x39 upper.

Money is no object though and those x39 mags are hideous.

If I were going with the x39 I'd just get an AK.

My deer rifle is a Rem Micro 7 in 300BLK. As long as I live in Ga, nothing else is needed. If I ever return to Az, the 308 will be used.

Are you going to put a suppressor on it ?
My can is only subsonic 300BLK rated and I really don't have any desire to suppress it anyway. I have a 9mm scorpion SBR if I want something small, quiet, and PCC effective.

Nothing wrong with a 7.62x39 AR. My first AR was in this caliber and hunted with it for years. Took me almost 15 years before I shot a 223 AR. I think 300BO ammo is a little more accurate than steel cased 7.62x39. However, you can buy x39 all day long for cheap and the deer don't seem to mine. Just know you weapon and practical ranges and go hunt.

I shot my 8.5" 300blk with a comp on it yesterday for the first time and it really wasn't that loud even with the short barrel and a comp on it shooting some hot supers. It was definitely quieter than the guys 16" 5.56 AR with a birdcage flash hider on it that was shooting next to me. It'll eventually get some sort of flash hider or a Midwest Industries blast diverter. I just got that comp because it was the only muzzle device that Cabela's had for a 30 cal and I needed something to protect the threads on the gun since it didn't have anything on it when I got it. I don't really have any interest in subsonic loads or suppressing it.

Heathen. 7.62x39 ARs are abominations.
Not only are they abominations, they typically dont run as well, theybeat the AR platform to death, the angle of the rounds in the mag makes feeding less reliable, and 300 ammo comes in more and better varieties for hunting.

Nothing wrong with hunting with 300 blk supers. 30 cal out of a 15 lower using the same mags. May not be the "best," but certainly doesn't mean that it isn't adequate for hunting.

You are, without doubt, the dummest, but not because of this choice.

Legit, if it's what you want, there's not any real reason to not other than cost.
Some of the newer 5.56 70+gr stuff hits damn hard though and performs nicely out of a 10.3" bbl
