I've been looking for a S&W J Frame for a while now; finally came across one a few days ago.

Originally, I was planning to buy a 357. I know what shooting full load 357s feels like; after thinking about it I realized that I would be practicing a lot more with 38 regardless since I knew I wanted a lightweight revolver for CCW. I decide to go with the 38 and I don't regret it. The 357 has a great reputation of doing what it's supposed to do, but I've always been a huge fan of shot placement and I know that I will shoot 38 with more accuracy in a lightweight revolver.

On another note, I finally got a chance to shoot her yesterday. I only shot 132 grain FMJs, but I was pleasantly surprised with recoil; I'm sure that she will bite more next time when I try some +P through her.

I was shooting a few inches to the right at 7 yards initially, which I attribute partially to the double action only trigger. I only own one other DAO gun, and it's a full size S&W semi-auto (4586 TSW) so I'm not as accustomed to the trigger pull. Most of what I shoot on a regular basis is striker fired. In terms of elevation, I was shooting very consistently. The sight window is good for what it is, but I need to paint the top of the front sight.

Nice snubbie!

I frequently carry an S&W Model 36 - great CCW piece. You are right, the trigger requires training and practice. The trigger motion and feel of a revolver is quite different than a semi-auto.

So the bad news is that you have to spend a fair amount of time at the range getting used to your new little friend. No, wait.... is that bad news??

442's are hard to find. good job. I've been looking for a no lock 442 for a while. online auction sellers seem to think they're made out of gold.

I've had a pair of Smith & Wesson J Frames for years now. Being Snubbies, it's up close and personal.

Congratulations on the purchase.

You're not kidding, yz9890! I've been looking for a 442 at a decent price for months.

When I first saw this one, it had pink grips on it. Since I didn't want to give up my man card, I checked to see if they had an aftermarket grip for it. They were sold out of the Hogue J frame grips, but when I got back to the counter the salesman said "I'm going to make your day" as he pulled a set of S&W black grips from the box. Apparently, mine is a model that S&W sells with both pink & black grips. He was right; that did make my day, because I knew it was meant to be when he found the black grips.

I'm hanging on to the pink grips just in case my wife figures out I bought another gun.

"But honey, I even bought pink grips for you so it will look better in your purse."

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :D

Thanks muk, I'm quite proud of my idea! I know all of you are going to start looking for pink grips for the last guns y'all bought!

I can already see the headlines when my secret gets out.....

"Record-breaking sales of pink gun grips unexplained, manufacturers scrambling to meet demands"

maybe my wife will warm to the idea of a HD Street Bob if I put a pink seat on one.

You will never, never regret that purchase SS. I am more satisfied with mine every passing day! I would even carry it with the pink grips, if that was all I had. Verti has a beautiful set of pink grips on one of his pistols.
I'm so glad I got mine a few years back ($360 - no lock!). YZ is absolutely correct saying they are tough to find and very high priced online. Still, a great gun at any price.

You got a great gun there. I have its cousin (model 642) in my pocket as I type this. I have not seen a 442 or 642 for sale anywhere for a while now.

Update:

Stopped by the Post Office to check my mail, and had a nice surprise; my Crimson Trace grips came today. I was not expecting them to arrive until Monday, but it sure gave me a good excuse to shoot her again today.
