Since I don't deal with anything larger than 7.62x39 very often, maybe some of you could help me out.

1. How thin can I turn the barrel before the gun explodes?

2. Can anybody recommend a good muzzle brake?

I'll probably have more questions as I continue building this stupid thing, so any real answers and sarcastic comments are appreciated.

The one I shot years ago didn't have a brake. Recoil is not much more than an AK with slant brake. .5 bore doesn't leave a lot of extra barrel to thin.

I know there's not a lot of barrel to cut away, but I need to find a way to get an HBAR front sight on there.

You might want to verify that the handguard will even close up. I have a couple of heavy barrel guns and had to use a Magpul handguard as my GI stuff wouldn't come close to working. I would think it would be easier to remove material from the end cap than the barrel. If it doesn't work, only cost a couple of dollars to replace.

I was also going to suggest modifying the hand guard/delta ring and/or other components to fit the barrel. Alexander Arma offers a traditional AR platform in .50 Beowulf. They do not sell individual parts, just uppers lowers and complete rifle. If this is the look you are going for then the parts are out there. The image below is their overmatch plus.

Delta ring and handguard work fine, but I will have to bore out the forend cap and front sight. I just hope there's enough material left once I open it to .850

Upper's pretty much done. At least all the hard stuff is. Now I just need to paint the barrel, track down the rest of the parts, and get the lower engraved.
