OK, dumb question, can you shoot a .44spec out of a .44mag? I feel like I should know this but I don't and can't seem to find an answer! Anyone know?
Like the .38 Special vs .357 Magnum, the only difference between the .44 Special and the .44 Magnum is a little length of the cartridge case (1.16" for .44 Spl and 1.285" for .44 Mag). In both cases, you can fire the shorter "Special" cartridges in the Magnum revolver.

In The Enforcer, Dirty Harry Tells Tyne Daly he uses .44 specials in his 6" model 29. I think he even says light loads.'
