After seeing that video I am leaning AK. That Bolton Block makes the gun look SOOO much better. Couple that with a shortened barrel and the PWS brake and it looks like a winner.
Objectively I think the answer is AK/VZ. It is the simplest design that offers the best mix of accuracy, power, firepower, and cost.
The PTR/HK just tugs on my heartstrings more...but offers 98% of the reliability of the AK and twice the power..
Lol I don't. I get way to ocd about making the best choice that I agonize over rediculous details.
VZ2008 with 2 mags from PSA is $417 shipped. 5 mags are about $95. A case of Wolf is $220. Total: $732
PTR91 16" GI: $800 with 12 mags.
C39 V2 with a case of ammo and 3 mags :$1000. I am very...
At least 10.
How many rounds do you have through yours? Have you had "the gremlin" and/or have you tabbed your bolt carrier?
Reading about how the VZ2008S NEED to have a tab welded on has admittedly put a sour taste in my mouth. Otherwise, if the mags are around $10 then it is an awesome gun...
Does Tapco make suitable AK mags?
I am trying to narrow down between a Zastava M70 NPAP, a Century C39V2, and a VZ2008....The VZ2008 is cheapest but the mags seem to be about $15/pop
I just wish Sig would get their act together with those 556s. I would get one except I've read of some rather startling problems with the xi Russians...not cycling and turning into single shots.
If I'm going to spend the money to feed a 308 gun then it will be a PTR. Those 308 AKs are cool and all and a bit cheaper but the mags seem to be pretty pricey and hard to find. PTR mags are $3/each. Plus, if I go AK it will be one that I can easily take parts off of any other AK and get it back...
I am in the market for a new general purpose rifle...I have pretty much narrowed my search down to either a PTR-91 or AK variant.
Cost is a factor, which normally would make the AK a clear winner as I could buy the gun ( Zastava M70) and a couple cases of ammo for the price of one PTR-91.
I...
