Not necessarily, but it was something that happened with originals from time to time, and it was originally considered an error, so some of the repro people have used this as a way to either remark mismatched parts, or to make it look more authentic/crusty/imperfect.

No, the guard goes on from the back, wood slips over a spindle, and then at the very rear it's flared to retain to handguard. Adding trench art markings to wood isn't as hard as it looks, if you know how to do it.

I was thinking the same thing. Scabbard looks legit, but that blade looks too perfect, and the scratches on the handguard got me wondering if the blade's been replaced.
