I would say anything above 1/4" would be fine. The question is do you plan on moving it around? If so that will really help determine the thickness and length you need to go with.

Got a new holster some time ago. Seems I still have some squeaking coming from the leather/clip area. It is not terribly loud, but I can notice it. Any tips or tricks to help take the squeak away.
