You know that brings up another point. If you're hiking with others you can eliminate the redundancy by one hiker hauling the water, one hauling the stove etc...

My wife hauls her Zpack tent. I haul the tarp. We each carry our own stove/food, it just makes prep faster but some folks do it different.
This is one of the big keys in a group. One 1st aid kit. One (or 2) tarps, one stove. Helps if you need extra tools also. One saw, one multi-tool, one hatchet, (If you feel the need for these tools.) Hell, in your thread on camp gun, if you feel the need for a long gun, one long gun. Spent 6 weeks in the Bob Marshall Wilderness before a bunch of you guys were born with a group. This kind of planning is the only way we survived. One rifle, one single-shot 20 gauge for small game meals, one fishing set-up, etc. Divide up tasks like getting water, wood, fishing, cooking, etc. for the day.

What if ya get separated, etc?
While separation is a small risk, overexertion & injury from carrying too much weight is a GIANT risk. Man, @Tedkennedy. I wish some of this super lightweight you're posting existed back in the day. We literally drilled holes in long spoon handles, toothbrush handles, etc. to try & cut weight.
