So I've never owned a 22 until 2 weeks ago, now I have 2. Bought a scoped synthetic 10/22 and a wood 10/22. The question I have is about ammo. Can you use subsonic ammo in an unsuppressed 10/22? What is the best ammo?

CCI standard vel works great and is most affordable and is more accurate than most shooters , There is plenty more ammo out there that will work Eley edge works good in a 22 auto but is pricey and hard to find , federal auto comp will work but not sure is its SUB or not

Likely have cycling problems unsuppressed with quiets. Really don't need a can with the subs...slightly louder than a pellet rifle (out of my CZ452 American). YMMV

IME .22s can be weird about ammo; one 10/22 (for example) might run a load reliably while another won't. You'll have a bit of work to do figuring out which brand(s) will run in each gun. At least it's a "job" you can have fun with!

@karlvv 22’s are a fun cheap way to keep plinking congrats on the 10/22’s. I own 2 as well and love em. It all depends on what you want to do with it. Plink for fun or hunt. I’d set up a rifle to stay with subsonic ammo and the other for high velocity ammo if you do both. There is quite a bit difference in bullet drop from one to the other. You’ll spend a lot of time chasing the bullseye swapping the 2 on the same rifle so keep them separate. Mine like either CCI SV Eley club / target for subsonic and the Federal AutoMatch or CCI Mini Mag for high velocity. The only one I’d not buy is CCI Quiet because it won’t cycle in semiauto rifles.

Hard to find right now. I have 500 rounds of supersonic 40 grain aguila hollow points and 500 rounds of American eagle subsonic 45 grain. I also have 500 rounds of fiocchi 38 grain hp on order. I'll mess with these 3 and see how it goes. Hopefully the ammo shortage will go away after the election and I can get some better ammo.

That’s a great start on stacking 22lr deep. I bet there’s some here that would pay top $ for those AE 45gr subsonic rounds. Very popular for people using suppressors. I’ve looked for CCI SV and occasionally picked up at WM $35 500

Put yourself on notify when in stock here

I bought 2000 for like $100

Just wait, @karlvv will post up a pic of 3 15-pointers that he took with 1 shot from his .22, using iron sites, from 250 yds, using subs, as he was falling out of the tree stand, with an open but unspilled Miller Lite in the other hand.

Outstanding, as long as he doesn't spill the beer. If the beer spills, meh.

For what it's worth, I've shot a lot of different .22 ammo over my chronograph.

Federal Auto Match is very consistent and just over 1200FPS in my 16" barrel.

CCI Mini mags were the same.

CCI Standard velocity haf a bit more spread, but about the same speed.

Most bulk pack had a spread of 75 FPS or so and averaged about 1300 FPS.
