I've wanted one of these big bastards since I first saw them. I finally got it the other day. Took it out today, only had time for two quick mags through it, and all I had was Winchester White Box 230 grain FMJ. First mag had about 10 assorted failures. Stovepipe, FTF, and FTE. The second mag, (different magazine) only had one FTE. It was the next to last. Both mags were loaded to full capacity at 15 rounds. This is a brand new gun. I know these have a spectacular reputation for reliability, but does anyone else have any issues with any particular ammo out of theirs? I'm gonna get some other brand ammo and test them when I have a spare moment. BEBF3E3D-1114-46E7-8DA6-88E0D5754EAB.jpeg A7FA6C1B-5706-4966-9757-440C11528633.jpeg

This may be stupid, but it has to be asked.

Did you give it a good cleaning and oiling before you shot it?
I took it apart and did a visual inspection. But that was it. It wasn't bone dry by any means, and had similar to the copper grease found on Glocks from the factory. Might not be a bad idea though. I've gotten so used to Glock's maintenance schedule.

I'm reading that they ship with really stiff springs. Lots are saying to leave the slide locked back for a week, the mags all fully loaded, and clean out the factory grease then LIBERALLY apply fresh oil during break in.

Agood cleaning and lube would be my first step.

Should have got the Dan Wesson. That was JMB that caused those malfunctions to punish you. Now go buy a 1911 before he fucks up your Glock too.

I’d agree with cleaning factory goo off and I won’t buy Winchester ammo for 22lr or 9mm anymore. Epic Fail in quality control dept. FTF FTE too often.

What do y'all find to be the most consistent economy/range ammo. I'd like to buy some bulk ammo, but I want to make sure it'll run it reliably first.

In .45ACP? Georgia Arms...if not reloads, then Speer Lawman. Those are my two main go-to's anyways.

Yeah, GA is ~.33 per round at 1000 for 230 grain FMJ. Haven't looked at Speer lawman prices yet.

Beware on GA Arms though, especially if your gun has a tendency to malfunction. Their bullets aren't crimped and they aren't seated too well so when you get a nosedive(or really any other malfunction previous to detonation) that you check the round for setback. Luckily it didn't damage my gun but I shot a round off that had obviously had setback issues and it was loud as hell and the recoil was about twice what it normally is due to increased chamber pressure. Although I don't know that this isn't the case for other .45 ACP ammo as well since .45 ACP seems to be more prone to bullet setback than other rounds.

SO I have had some experience with FNX45s and have swore off them. Occasionally I do hear their siren call at the gun shop, but they are just poorly designed. Yes, I said it.

The entire reason the FNX exists is mired on controversy. The FNP had so many problems that FN had to redesign the pistol and name it the FNX. However, FN gave the shaft to all the FNP owners by not honoring any warranty work on guns that are known to be faulty.

Even the current FNX is not without problems. It is far too finicky with ammo fr a $1000, supposedly combat handgun. The polymer used is known to go very, very soft in heat to the point where some have reported being able to make indents with your fingernail. Mags don't always drop free, even loaded. The do any sort of maintenance to the pistol that requires disassembly requires you to break some pins, essentially breaking the pistol.

I REALLY want to love that gun. 15 round .45? hell yeah....but I have owned two std FNX45s and one tactical. I have had mag release/drop free problems with all of them. The Tactical did have extremely soft polymer, not nail-indent soft but just squeezing it with a strong grip made the pistol frame flex noticeably. None of mine would reliable feed WWB or Federal aluminum.

Go to the FN forums...you will see that those guys put HK snobbery to shame. They will make fun of you for putting 87 in your Ferrari by using WWB in your FNX-T while not addressing the fact that a combat handgun can't feed stuff that even a hi-point could.

I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm shitting in your cheerios, that really isn't my intention. That gun pisses me off so bad because I want to LOVE it so freaking bad but it just let me down, 3 times. My old Tisas POS beat to hell 1911 was more reliable.

All of this, however, is just my opinion and experience. YMMV

What did you shoot mostly?
Anything. Nothing in particular.

My buddy has one well in XS of 10k rounds. No issues for him as well.

I don't believe in this whole soft plastic thing. When I got mine, I was curious. Left it on the dash of my car, all black, in the summer sun. Nothing. Slide was hot though, as one would expect.

I noticed I could flex the mag well when there wasn't a mag in it, but nothing crazy excessive. And it would always spring back. Either way, I'm still excited about it. I really think it was mostly ammo. Maybe partly break in period.
