It does not say anything about current license holders. Just another way to raise money for the state. What about the people who can carry without a permit? They just passed that last year.

It says the training would be safe handling, loading, and unloading. Getting pretty sick of politicians trying to pass stupid laws that do nothing more than give them a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I don't have a CCL, since I have a Military ID. Will I be exempted ? And its a bad idea IMHO.

I think this is a step towards acceptance of the GWCL in states that do not currently recognize it.

I don't think drivers licenses should be given to anyone who simply passes a background check, either.

I realize that a lot of people are going to yell "muh freedom" and all that. Those people are the same that don't have a carry permit because they don't think it is constitutionally required.

To be blunt, I am against dumbasses driving & dumbasess carrying guns. I see lots of both.

Your argument holds little weight when you start it by saying anyone that disagrees with you is an inbred retard. That's what the left does.

So you are in favor of stricter gun laws. Got it. Are you opposed to no background checks for private sales as well? What about gun free zones?

Until mandatory training comes with 50 state reciprocity and a national standard for carry laws I won't support it. Anything less is just another bit of gun rights they are taking away.

This is the typical Anti gun argument and part of the problem. Do you think driving a car on public roads is a right? Do you think politicians really have your safety in mind with these laws? Hard to believe some gun owners fall for this stuff

To be really blunt, the person who will be giving the class will have to be a LEO... I'm sorry but I have forgotten more about guns than 99.9% of the LEO's that will be teaching the class.

I'm a LEO and longtime Firearms Instructor. Even though required training would mean more money for me, I'm wholeheartedly against it.

I'm especially against training that has a pass/fail qualification course at the end of it. So John Smith (26YOA, 6'2", 200lbs, MMA fighter with 8 years of experience) can pass the qual course and gets a permit. Grandma Hazel (82YOA, 5'3", 108lbs) can't pass the qual course. Honestly, which one of them needs a firearm for personal protection more?

I've seen the firing training program in states like Tennessee that have it as a requirement of applying for a permit. They're bullshit courses that are check the box and have almost no bearing on what a person really needs to know, and be able to do, in a deadly force situation. Just another way for government to regulate and make money.

I missed seeing that in my post. Sorry I triggered you. I also read Rules for Radicals, nice try...

I missed that in my post as well. It's not a "gun law" it's a carry requirements being discussed. To answer the rest, I am opposed to requiring background checks on private sales, gun free zones as well as the federal prohibition of pistol sales to 18-20 year olds.

This is the typical Anti gun argument and part of the problem. Do you think driving a car on public roads is a right? Do you think politicians really have your safety in mind with these laws? Hard to believe some gun owners fall for this stuff

Traveling is a right, driving is a privilege. Fuck up with either driving or carrying & you can lose it, whether right or privilege.
Politician are looking for revenue, they already got you there. Unless you don't have a GWCL, therefor no dog in this contest.

Freedom isn't easy, neither is being responsible easy for some people.
