After countless hours on YouTube... Searching for peoples setups on personal survival items, gear, and what have you. I think I found a good start for your truck/car/moped/llama mode of transportation.

I started with a Janus pack from maxpedition and the esee izula surivial kit that came with my knife. Added a multitool and went from there.

Added the paracord that came with the knife and a set of grimloc 's to attach to belt loops.

Then set out to see what works for me, or what I think is necessary to have if I put my main pack down.

There is water purification ntabs (which have probably expired from the ga heat, that will be replaced/discarded next time I am out and about) a small knife sharpener, bandana, emergency blanket, cheapie poncho (many uses, get creative) extra cordage, biodegradeable camp Soap in an old contact eyendropper, I had a thing of bleach in a different color one I must have forgotten to put it back, a nylon stockeling for my life straw/sawyer microfilter and an altoids survival tin.

1438720555375-619032411.jpg

The tin is basically mico first aid for small cuts, a lighter wrapped with 5yds of dental floss, waterproof matches, striker, fishhooks of varying sizes, safety pins, benadryl, anti-shits meds, a good sturdy needle, tweezers, fishing line and sinkers, and a ferrocium stick.

Hope this gives you a good start on your own little never leave my side bag.

My philosophy for this stuff is light and how many uses can we get out of a few things. Just have to open your mind and look beyond the obvious.

If it's going in a vehicle, I always add some easy food (energy bar) and a bottle of water.

Nice little kit there! I'm not familiar with the Janus from Maxpedition- I'm going to have to look that one up.

The only things I'd change is packing the loose things in a ziplock freezer bag or two. I always manage to get caught in the rain or falling into water. It's nice when the stuff I'm carrying around is still dry. And I'd toss the second bottle of water purification tablets (the 'neutralizer' or whatever they call it). They claim it takes out the idoine taste, but I've never been able to tell the difference. Or maybe the GI surplus canteens I have just flavor everything the same regardless.

well.. this is one part of the whole. but, it is if you put your pack down and get separated for some reason. that was the thought process.

yeah, i am sure they are expired by now. been in my car for 2 GA summers..LOL same with the meds. gonna be doing a total change over this weekend. taking suggestions, and then going for a walk to try it out.

NOTE: Last time i changed something on this (izula placement) i needed 10 stitches. 5 internal and 5 external... just a heads up.

I know a lot of people like to say put this in, put that in and if you did it would weigh 100 pounds. That being said an all weather whistle would be very nice I think.

It's on my rei flash pack 18 that is rolled up next to this. Same with button compass (but I rely on sun, moss growth, and my internal navi system.)

Ok. I was kind of surprised that you wouldn't have one because other than that its a pretty neat minimalist kit. I should have known there was one somewhere.
