I don't get how SA can use MIM parts in the HRT/Professional model and charge $3k. MIM might be just fine but at that price point there is ZERO reason it should have MIM

Whats MIM? I'm not a 1911 guy... I have a base model 1911, that shoots very, very well, and thats about all I know about them... That and I really want the Doublestar 1911, you know, to match my DS rifles. :)

Metal Injection Molding.....basically a process in which powdered metal is formed/cast into a part.

The average shooter will likely never break a well made MIM part...but at anything above $1000 I expect no MIM.

Kimber started going to shit whwn they went MIM....

Metal Injected Molding. Something 1911 guys worry about on the Internet but in the real world means nothing.

It does not matter if it says Colt or Wilson or Whatever is the flavor of the month Manufacturing company on the part, because more than half of the parts are MIM.
You have to watch what you buy to get away from MIM Parts (and pay way more for it too).
I will not use most MIM parts in a Build but my Range officer has MIM parts in it and after a trigger job it shoots perfect.

After owning Springers, Kimber, Ruger, RIA & Sig, I've traded them all except the Sigs. I know some don't like the external extractors, but I love the triggers and smoothness of the Sigs.

If I was getting another budget 1911, I would get another RIA in a heartbeat, the 3 I've had were all great shooters with a little tweaking.

The only 1911 that I traded/sold that I really miss is the Sig RCS Sport 13. I haven't seen one listed in over a year.

You do get several features in Sig 1911's that are normally only found in the higher priced guns. The most important one for me is a checkered front strap. This is a must for me with 1911's. I won't own a 1911 that has a smooth front strap anymore.

Unfortunately, my lovely financial advisor will not let me drop that much on a gun right now.

Quit being a pussy & just go balls deep

Would it be less if you brought in your own Springfield .45?

Don't know for sure, but easy enough to check. Look at the cost of the parts, then go to a John Harrison's website and see what the labor will be. Then factor in a lengthy wait time cuz John is in high demand and there's a shitload of folks in line ahead of you!

Or would I be just as well off getting this...

I can't really comment on the Doublestar 1911. I've shot a couple, but not enough to really form an opinion, and I haven't had one apart.

Well, if I get a chance, I'll pick one up, and you can run it in one of your classes for me... :)

To address the original question, I would recommend Loaded model, I have heard good things about the TRP's but have newer had one. So far I have had 2 Springfield loaded they where both great albeit not equal one had a noticeably crisper trigger, neither one of the particularly like fmj's and would misfeed on them sometimes but newer had a problem with HP.

The only two 1911's i have had that had no feeding or ejection problems are WC posted above and the Sig Scorpion(you may have seen it as a model in certain attachment documents). That said I have put considerably more rounds through the Sig.

My current 1911 choices would be this.

Carry: Sig Sauer
Range: Springfield Loaded.
Competition: WC
Drool: Singer (yes there is a drool category of 1911's)
