It's almost all mag/feed angle related.

If I were even going to try it would be with a mutant type lower than uses AK mags. I would guess it cuts way down on the issues.
Ive seen those and they seem like an awesome idea! Ive only seen it from PSA though and meh to them imo.

Yeah and I don't go 762x39 AR because of the lack of time they've been around to determine quality and what not. I might though if they prove themselves. I've seen a. Few people with them and they were pricey as all get out AND had issues now and then. I'm not convinced yet.

The ones that take AK mags look cool as hell, but the 7.62x39 AR mags look stupid to me.

There are numerous companies listing a carbine/rifle with an AR upper and a lower that takes AK mags. PSA, CMMG, RRA, and MGI come to mind. Probably a few more.

Another option is the SIG 556R/556xi Russian. I had a 16.5" 556R, that I replaced with a 10" 556xi Russian. Better ergonomics and ease of mounting than an AK, IMO, and very accurate and reliable. I've got a case of Lapua 7.62x39mm 123grn FMJ at home. I only break into it for accuracy testing. With a NF 2.5-10x32mm on my 556R, that load grouped into slightly better than 1MOA at 100yds. While I haven't tried to accuracy-test my 556xi SBR, with a 1x RDS and Tula ammo, cranial vault shots at 100yds are easy.

I'm kinda scratching my head at a $3k precision-intended AK myself. But, if you're married to that platform, wanna keep that caliber, and want a DMR, this would be the ticket for you. Only complaint at that point would be the dearth of good ammunition for it. The Lapua usually ain't easy to find. Hornady makes some good loads for it as well. Midway USA lists the Lapua load for $1.50/round......$.50 more per round than match-grade .308/7.62x39mm, but they show it as out of stock.

I'm all for new guns added to the market, and enjoy seeing folks build shit for the hell of it, or just to prove they can.
