Maybe the car lot he was defending was owned by his parents??? Or a friend of the family?? We have no idea at this time, but this would be a perfectly rational reason for him to be there protecting the place.

How many of you would help protect a store owned by a friend? I bet more than one...

That's just speculation if that's they case then it would be self defense for sure IMO but we don't know. If it was a close friend or family i would but I'm not driving 15 minutes to defend a random lot/gas station.

Its not very clear just that the big talker guy with the red shirt decided to charge the 17year old, not sure if he had a weapon or not

Someone threw a fire bomb at him, he was getting by chased by someone. He was clearly avoiding and running away from the individual who then decides to throw a fire bomb at him but misses, he then returns fire
