I have a different theory. Yeager and Zero met in the desert for their final live webcast showdown. When their lips finally met, the resulting attraction set off an explosion similar to a small Tactical Nuke. Their friends who were nearby were lost in the aftermath. Nothing remained but dust and burnt shadows on the rocks. RIP Dougie, you'll be missed.
